The best cities for UNESCO World Heritage sites

For travelers who plan around places UNESCO has formally recognized. Only cities whose Waystop itinerary walks through an inscribed property are here, with the property named as UNESCO lists it and the year it was inscribed, checked against the World Heritage list. Ordered by how much of the three or four days is spent inside the site.

Sites are open all year; the lines are not. April, May and October are the easy months in Rome, Florence, Istanbul and Prague, late March to mid-April and mid-November are the beautiful crowded weeks in Kyoto, and February to early March is the clear window for Agra.

Checked October 10, 2026. Every city links to a day-by-day itinerary with the hours and prices looked up.
