Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock
Staré Město · 60 min
The apostles come out on the hour and the show is free from the square. Watch the 9 a.m. one; by 11 a.m. you will be watching the backs of heads.
Three days that take the old city before the crowds, the castle and its hill, and then the parts of Prague where people actually live: Vyšehrad, Vinohrady and a beer garden with the bridges below. One tram ride a day and the rest on foot.

Checked October 10, 2026. That’s the day we last confirmed the hours, prices and closed days.

May, June and September are the mild months (highs around 61 to 72°F (16 to 22°C)) and the easiest to walk. July and August are hot and the Old Town is full. December has the markets and a dark, cold square; January and February are near freezing but empty and cheap.
Staré Město or Josefov to walk out of the door into the itinerary. Malá Strana is quieter and prettier at night. Vinohrady is where the cafés and the value are, ten minutes by metro from the center. Karlín is the newest and calmest base.
Metro, trams and buses share one ticket: 30 minutes for 36 Kč or 90 minutes for 46 Kč in the PID Lítačka app (39 and 50 Kč on paper), 24 hours for 140 Kč. Prices rose in January 2026. Validate paper tickets once in the yellow machine; app tickets are just activated. Tram 22 is the sightseeing line.
