Pay in crowns. The currency is the Czech koruna (Kč), around 24 to the euro. Places that take euros set their own rate and keep 10 to 20 percent. Nearly everywhere takes cards; if the terminal asks, choose crowns.
Exchange offices and ATMs. The offices around Old Town Square advertise 0% commission and a good rate that applies only when they buy euros from you. If you do change cash, keep the receipt: you can cancel an exchange of under about €1,000 within three hours. Euronet ATMs offer to convert to your currency: decline, choose “without conversion”, and prefer a bank’s machine.
Tickets. Fares rose on January 1, 2026. In the PID Lítačka app a 30-minute ticket is 36 Kč, 90 minutes 46 Kč, 24 hours 140 Kč and 72 hours 340 Kč; paper costs a few crowns more. Buy in the app and activate before you board. A paper ticket must be stamped in the yellow machine the first time you board or enter a metro station; unstamped, it is a fine.
Tram 22. It climbs from Národní třída and Malostranská to the Pražský hrad stop by the Castle’s north gate and saves the hill; walk down afterwards.
The Castle ticket. The courtyards, lanes and gardens are free and open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The interiors need the Main Circuit ticket, 450 Kč: St Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St George’s Basilica and Golden Lane, each entered once over two consecutive days. The old Circuit A and B tiers are gone; the cathedral’s south tower (200 Kč) and the exhibitions (300 Kč) are separate. Interiors open at 9 a.m.; the security line is shortest before then.
The clock and the Jewish Museum. The Astronomical Clock’s apostles run every hour from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., free; be there ten minutes early. The Old Town Hall tower is 350 Kč, open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. from April to December. The Jewish Museum closes Saturdays and Jewish holidays; the 600 Kč ticket covers the synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery over three days.
Beer and tipping. In a beer garden (Letná, Riegrovy sady) you share tables and order at the stand. In a pub the waiter tallies each beer on a slip on your table and brings the next when the glass is low, unless you put the coaster on top. Pay the slip at the end and name the rounded-up total you want to pay, up to 10 percent over.
First morning. Buy the app ticket while you wait for your bag, take trolleybus 59 and metro A into town, and be at the Castle gate for 9 a.m. If a plan puts the Jewish Museum on a Saturday, Waystop’s hours check will flag it.
