Day trip planner

A day trip planner for a whole day out.

A Saturday in the next town, a hike with lunch after, or Nara from Kyoto. Pick the place, tap one date and say where you’re starting from. Chat plans the day as one card: stops in order, lunch and dinner if you want them, the opening hours checked for that day, and the way there and back on your itinerary. One tap adds it, and the reply tells you when to leave to get home.

Free to plan. $1.50 of Chat credit to start, no card needed.

How a day trip works

Itinerary

One day, start to finish. Tap a single date and the trip is one day. Instead of a hotel, the day starts and ends at your starting point: home, a station or wherever you set out from.

Chat

The whole day in one card. Ask “Plan a day trip to Nara, back by 7pm.” Every stop comes from Google Maps with its hours for that day, and Chat says when you leave the last stop and when you’re back.

Map

There and back, drawn out. The map shows the day as a route from your starting point and back, with the walk or train between each stop and which line to take.

Things you can ask Chat

The rest of the trip comes too

A day trip gets the same app as a two-week one: an itinerary of real places with their hours checked, a map, and a Chat that plans and changes it. Packing, money split in any currency, phrases and your tickets come along for the day.

Questions

Can I plan a day in my own city?

Yes. Pick your city, a nearby town or a park, tap one date, and set your home as the starting point. Chat plans the day from there, and the itinerary shows the way to the first stop and the way back home.

Do I need a hotel for a day trip?

No. A one-day trip has a starting point instead of lodging: your home, a station or wherever you set out from. Leave it blank and Chat still plans the day, then asks where you’re starting so it can time the trip there and back.

Can I take a day trip in the middle of a longer trip?

Yes. Ask Chat something like “Make day 3 a day trip to Nara.” It plans the day from your hotel, counts the train there in the first start time, and ends early enough to get back.

Does it plan driving routes?

Not yet. Waystop times walking and public transit, with a taxi fare estimate for any leg. If you’re driving, treat the transit times as a rough guide.

What does it cost?

Free to plan, with $1.50 of credit to try Chat, no card. After that, Chat uses credit you add in the app, $5, $10 or $20 at a time, charged by what each answer costs. It never expires.
