Pompeii. Tickets are named, €20 (€25 with the Villa of the Mysteries), capped at 20,000 a day with 15,000 of them before 1 p.m., no re-entry, and the gate checks your ID. From April to October buy online a few days ahead, or arrive after 1 p.m. when the line has gone. Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. mid-March to mid-October, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in winter. The first Sunday of the month is free, unbooked and slow; make it your Herculaneum day.
Vesuvius. Gran Cono tickets sell online only at vesuviopark.vivaticket.it, €10 plus a fee, in 10-minute slots released 30 days ahead; nothing is sold at the parking lot. The EAV bus from Pompei Scavi station climbs to 1,000 meters; the rim is 30 minutes up gravel. The path shuts at 4 p.m. in October and 3 p.m. in winter.
The train. The Circumvesuviana leaves the lower level of Napoli Garibaldi every half hour, 35 minutes to Pompei Scavi for a little over €3. The Campania Express tourist train is suspended from October 1, 2026 until further notice, and a new timetable from October 17 runs the Sorrento line at :00 and :30 from Porta Nolana. An ANM or EAV single stays €1.30; the 90-minute Unico ticket covering every operator in the city is €1.90 since the October 1, 2026 rise.
The chapel. Cappella Sansevero is booking only: €12 timed slots go on sale 60 days ahead and weekend mornings sell out days before. Closed Tuesday. Book it first, the volcano second, Pompeii last: the order they sell out in.
Pizza. Nobody takes a booking. Da Michele hands out numbers at the door from 10:30 a.m.; Sorbillo at Via dei Tribunali 32 takes names and you wait across the street. Expect 30 to 60 minutes at 1 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., ten at opening or after 3 p.m.; a margherita is around €7.
Around town. The Alibus from the airport runs every 15 to 20 minutes, 5:30 a.m. to midnight, €5 by contactless on board, 20 minutes to Garibaldi and 35 to the port. Scooters use the sidewalks: cross the lanes at a steady pace with eye contact. Keep the phone zipped away on the Circumvesuviana and around Garibaldi.
The Artecard. The Napoli card is €27 for three days: the first three sites free, up to half off the rest, city buses, funiculars and metro lines 1 and 6 included, but not Pompeii or Herculaneum; the €41 whole-region card covers them and the Circumvesuviana.
On the day. Save the three QR codes in Waystop’s Documents, carry the ID the Pompeii ticket is in, and bring water and a panino into the ruins; there is one plain café and no shade.
