3 days in Busan

Three days split by coast: the old port around Jagalchi and Gamcheon, the east coast from the seaside temple to Gwangalli's drone show, then a mountain temple, Yeongdo's cliff village and a cable car over the sea. Each day is one part of the city; the metro gets you there and you walk the rest.

When to go

September to early November is the best stretch: warm sea, clear skies, the film festival in early October and the fireworks festival in November. April and May are mild with cherry blossom along the Oncheoncheon. July is the rainy month and August is hot and humid; the beaches are open and packed from July to August.

Where to base yourself

Haeundae for the beach, the Blueline Park and the easiest evenings; Gwangalli for the bridge view and the drone show on your doorstep. Nampo or Busan Station if you want Jagalchi and Gamcheon on foot and a quick start for the KTX. Seomyeon is the central compromise, 20 minutes from both coasts on metro line 2.

Getting around

Buy a T-money or Cashbee card at any convenience store and tap it on the metro, buses and the light rail; a metro ride is ₩1,600 for one zone and ₩1,800 for two, and buses are about the same. Since September 2025 a light rail to metro change within 30 minutes costs one fare, not two. The Donghae Line commuter train runs from Bujeon through Centum City and Haeundae to Osiria for the temple. Taxis are cheap; hail with the Kakao T app.

The practical bits

From the airport

From Gimhae airport (PUS), the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail runs to Sasang in 6 minutes (₩1,600 with a card), where you change to metro line 2 for Seomyeon, Gwangalli and Haeundae; about an hour door to door to the beach. A taxi to Haeundae is 45 minutes to an hour. From Seoul, the KTX reaches Busan Station in 2 hours 15 to 2 hours 40 for around ₩55,000 standard class; the station is on metro line 1, a stop from Nampo.

What a day costs

About ₩70,000 to ₩100,000 a day per person for meals, the metro and a cable car or tower ticket. The Sky Capsule adds ₩25,000 to ₩30,000 a head; a Jagalchi or Millak raw fish dinner ₩30,000 to ₩50,000.

Questions

Is three days enough for Busan?

Yes, if you do one part of the city a day. With a fourth day, go to Gyeongju's tombs and temples, or spend a slow day at Songjeong and the Osiria coast.

Which day works in the rain?

Day 3: swap the cable car for Spa Land in the Shinsegae Centum City department store, the big jjimjilbang with hot spring baths, around ₩26,000 for four hours, then Seomyeon's underground mall is dry. In Waystop, ask Chat for a rain plan and it adds a second version of the day you can switch to.

KTX or fly from Seoul?

KTX. Seoul Station to Busan Station is 2 hours 15 on the fastest trains, around ₩55,000 standard class, and Busan Station is on metro line 1 one stop from Nampo. Book on the Korail app or at the station; fares moved in 2026, so check the app for the current number.

Do I need to book the Sky Capsule?

Yes for weekends and any sunset slot; weekday mornings often have space. Book at bluelinepark.com, and if it is sold out ride the beach train, which runs the same line at ground level for ₩8,000 to ₩10,000.
