Magellan's Cross
Downtown · 30 min
A small kiosk on Plaza Sugbo holding the cross Magellan planted in 1521; ten minutes is plenty. The basilica compound is next door.
Four days from one base: the old city on foot, a long day south to Moalboal's sardines and Kawasan Falls, Bohol by fast ferry for the Chocolate Hills and tarsiers, then Mactan's reefs and a seafood dinner by the Lapu-Lapu shrine.

Checked October 10, 2026. That’s the day we last confirmed the hours, prices and closed days.

December to May is the dry season and the time to come; February to April has the calmest sea for Moalboal and Mactan. The third Sunday of January is Sinulog, when the city is loud and hotels sell out weeks ahead. June to November brings afternoon rain and typhoons; Kawasan canyoneering is suspended after heavy rain and ferries can be canceled. The sardines are there all year.
Sleep in Cebu City for the first three nights: Lahug or IT Park for restaurants and easy Grab rides, Fuente Osmeña or Mabolo for something cheaper and central; all are 15 to 20 minutes from Pier 1 outside rush hour. Move to Mactan (Maribago or Punta Engaño) for the last night so the boat leaves from your doorstep and the airport is 20 minutes away.
Grab works everywhere on Cebu and Mactan and is the sane default; a cross-city ride is ₱150 to ₱300 and the fare is fixed before you book. Jeepneys and the newer modern minibuses cost under ₱20 a ride but need route codes and patience in traffic. MyBus links the airport, SM City Cebu and SM Seaside. For Moalboal take the Ceres bus from the South Bus Terminal or rent a car; for Bohol take the fast ferry from Pier 1.
Downtown · 30 min
A small kiosk on Plaza Sugbo holding the cross Magellan planted in 1521; ten minutes is plenty. The basilica compound is next door.
Downtown · 60 min
The oldest church in the country and its most visited image, the Santo Niño. Avoid Friday mornings unless you want the novena crowds; shoulders covered, hats off, and the museum under the Pilgrim Center is worth twenty minutes.
Downtown · 45 min
The smallest Spanish fort in the Philippines, five minutes' walk toward the port. Walk the walls, read the plaques, sit under the trees; it is a park as much as a fort.
₱30 to ₱50
Downtown · 45 min
Cebu's oldest public market, a few blocks west: dried fish, mangoes, puso rice hanging in woven pouches, and the lechon stalls. Hold your bag in front of you and bring small notes.
Escario · 75 min
Fifteen minutes by Grab to the Axis branch on N. Escario Street, where the order is spicy lechon by the quarter kilo with puso rice and a halved calamansi. Eat the skin hot.
Parian · 60 min
A 19th-century merchant house in Parian with its original hardwood floors and capiz windows; the guided tour is the reason to come. Closed Sundays, so swap days if you need to.
₱100 to ₱150
Parian · 45 min
Three minutes' walk past the Heritage of Cebu Monument: a coral-stone house from the 1680s, still lived in by the family, who show you round. Steep original stairs.
₱100
Busay · 90 min
Forty-five minutes by Grab up into Busay for the sunset over the city and Mactan. The temple is a marble folly with a fee that cut its hours in 2026, so check first; agree a return ride, as Grab is thin up here after dark.
₱120 to ₱150
Busay · 90 min
Open-air bamboo tables over the lights of the city, ten minutes from the temple. Baked scallops, crispy pata, a sour sinigang; the kitchen is slow at the weekend, so order everything at once.
Cebu City · 210 min
Buses run every half hour around the clock; board one marked Bato via Barili, never via Oslob. Three to three and a half hours, then a tricycle from Moalboal town to Panagsama Beach for about ₱150.
₱210
Moalboal · 90 min
Walk in from the beach by the dive shops and swim out to the drop-off, twenty meters from shore, where millions of sardines turn as one. Rent a mask and fins for about ₱100 and go before the tour boats arrive around ten.
Moalboal · 45 min
Green turtles graze the seagrass a hundred meters along the shore in two to four meters of water. Float, do not chase, and keep two meters away; the dive shops will point you to where they were this morning.
Moalboal · 60 min
A plain Filipino kitchen on the Panagsama road that the dive guides eat in. Grilled fish, chicken adobo, a plate of garlic rice; cash only, quick enough to make Kawasan by one.
Badian · 150 min
Forty minutes by habal-habal (₱150 to ₱200) to the first fall; only level one is open to walk-ins, with life jackets compulsory and a three-hour cap. Canyoneering is a separate half-day at ₱2,000 with an accredited guide, starting between six and eight in the morning.
₱200
Badian · 120 min
Flag a Cebu-bound Ceres on the highway by the Kawasan turn-off, or meet your driver. About two hours to Carcar, where you stop for dinner, then another hour and a half into the city.
₱230
Carcar · 45 min
Carcar City's market has lechon stalls that sell by the kilo until the pigs run out; most buses pause here. A quarter kilo with puso and a bag of Carcar chicharon is dinner, and you are back in Cebu around nine.
Port of Cebu · 120 min
OceanJet takes two hours across the strait, roughly hourly from before six until early evening. Book online two or three days ahead (a week for weekends and holidays), check in 45 minutes before sailing, and take the 5:10 a.m. or 6 a.m. boat for the whole day.
₱800 to ₱1,000
Baclayon · 45 min
Fifteen minutes east of the port with the driver you booked for the day (a car or van is around ₱3,000 to ₱3,500). A coral-stone church from the 1720s, rebuilt after the 2013 earthquake; the fee is for the museum beside it.
₱150
Corella · 45 min
The foundation's forest at Canapnapan, not the roadside cages in Loboc. A keeper walks you to the tarsiers found that morning: whisper, no flash, no touching, twenty minutes inside.
₱80 to ₱120
Loboc · 90 min
A floating buffet that putters upriver for an hour and back with a band on board: grilled fish, pork, rice cakes, mango. The ticket includes the meal; sit at the rail on the right going up.
₱850 to ₱1,000
Carmen · 75 min
Through the Bilar man-made mahogany forest to the government viewing deck: 214 steps and over a thousand grass cones to the horizon. Non-resident adults pay ₱150; skip the private Adventure Park and ignore guides pointing you to Sagbayan Peak, closed since 2025.
₱150
Bohol · 90 min
Ninety minutes on the same road. Ask the driver to stop at the Loboc church on the way if you missed it, and be at the pier 45 minutes before the boat.
Tagbilaran · 120 min
The late-afternoon sailings (around 4:20 p.m. and 5:40 p.m.) are the busy ones; this is the seat to book first. Watch the sunset from the open deck, back at Pier 1 by about eight.
₱800 to ₱1,000
Lahug · 75 min
A cozy Cebuano kitchen in a house in Villa Aurora, fifteen minutes from the pier by Grab. Humba, kinilaw, baked scallops, and the halo-halo if you still have room.
Cordova · 45 min
A private bangka for up to ten is ₱3,500 to ₱5,000 for six hours, a joiner seat ₱1,500 to ₱2,500, plus ₱10 terminal and ₱100 waters fees each. Book through your hotel or the Lapu-Lapu City tourism desk, with a Coast Guard permit and a life jacket per person.
₱3,500 to ₱5,000 per boat
Hilutungan · 90 min
The first stop while the water is clearest: a protected wall with big schools of fish that come to the boat. Snorkel from the bangka, since there is no beach; the sanctuary fee is paid to the wardens on arrival.
₱100
Nalusuan · 120 min
A sandbar with a long wooden walkway over the reef and a small resort. Snorkel the sanctuary first, then the sandbar as the tide drops; the fee is the steepest of the day.
₱300
Nalusuan · 90 min
Buy fish, pork, rice and mangoes at the Cordova market before you leave and the crew will grill them on board or on Nalusuan for a small fee, which beats the resort's menu. Bring more water than you think.
Punta Engaño · 45 min
Free, landscaped and quiet: the bronze Lapu-Lapu who defeated Magellan here in 1521, and a few meters away the obelisk the Spanish put up for Magellan. Half an hour, in the shade of the trees.
Abuno · 45 min
Mactan has made guitars since the Spanish; Alegre in Abuno lets you watch the workshop and try the finished ones. Twenty minutes by Grab; free to look, and a ukulele fits in a carry-on.
Punta Engaño · 90 min
The row of seafood stalls beside the Mactan Shrine: pick a live fish, prawns or scallops and have them done sugba (grilled), tuwa (sour soup) or kilaw (raw in vinegar). Agree the price per kilo first; dinner for two runs ₱1,000 to ₱3,000.

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) is on Mactan, 15 kilometers and 30 to 60 minutes from Cebu City across the bridges; Terminal 2 is international, Terminal 1 domestic. Grab from the arrivals area is the simplest option at about ₱300 to ₱500 to Lahug or IT Park. MyBus runs every 20 to 30 minutes from both terminals to SM City Cebu for ₱50 and takes about an hour. White metered taxis are cheaper than the yellow airport taxis; both line at the curb.
About ₱2,500 to ₱4,500 a day per person for meals, fees and Grab rides. The Bohol day is the dear one: around ₱2,000 for the ferry both ways, plus ₱1,200 to ₱1,500 in entrance fees and the cruise, plus a share of the car. A lechon lunch is ₱300 to ₱400, a sutukil dinner for two ₱1,000 to ₱3,000.
Plans change. Ask Chat and it proposes a reshuffled day you can apply, or just answers the question.
Enough for the city, one south-coast day, Bohol and Mactan, each as a full day. Add a fifth day for canyoneering with a night in Moalboal, or Bantayan Island in the north.
Yes. OceanJet sells out at weekends and on holidays, and the first morning and late afternoon sailings go first. Book online two or three days ahead, a week or more in Holy Week or around Sinulog.
Day 1: the churches, the fort and both museums are indoors or close together, and lunch is under a roof. Waystop's rain plan is a second version of the day you can switch to, so nothing is lost.
The whale sharks there are fed from boats every morning to keep them in the bay, which scientists have linked to changed behaviour and propeller injuries. Moalboal's sardines and turtles are wild and need no feeding, and they are an hour closer.
Same country first, then the cities people tend to pair with Cebu. Want two or three in one go? String them together in the trip builder.
Add your dates, your hotel and who’s coming, then ask Chat to change anything: it proposes the edit and you tap Apply. Want a long lunch instead of a museum? Just ask. Every place is checked against Google Maps before it lands on your day, and Chat can tell you when to leave for the next stop. Going on to another city? Build a multi-city trip.
