Packing list for a group trip: the shared kit
Four to eight of you in one apartment or a row of hostel beds: the kit one person brings for everyone, the things each of you still needs, what a rented apartment will not have, and the money rule that stops the last dinner turning into an argument.
On a phone with Waystop installed, the button adds the list to your trip as a bag you can tick off. Otherwise copy it and paste it into Waystop’s Chat with “add this to my packing list”.

Any season; the shared kit does not change, your own layer does. Barcelona and Lisbon pass 86°F (30°C) in July and August, Prague, Berlin and Budapest sit around 32°F (0°C) in January, Bangkok holds 90 to 91°F (32 to 33°C) by day all year, and Mexico City is 72 to 79°F (22 to 26°C) in the afternoon with winter nights down to 46°F (8°C).
- A hairdryer or straightenersEvery apartment and hotel has a dryer, and Mexico's 127 V supply will not run yours properly anyway
- A board game in a boxA deck of cards does the same job at 90 grams; the box takes a day bag's worth of space
- A corkscrew with a bladeIt is not allowed in carry-on luggage. The apartment has one, and if it does not, the shop downstairs sells one for a couple of euros.
- Breakfast on the first nightBread, coffee, milk, oil and salt from the supermarket before it shuts; eight people waiting for one café table at nine is a lost morning
- The big bottles of waterIn Bangkok and Mexico City the tap water is not for drinking; a 5 liter bottle from the corner shop costs little and refills everyone
- A transit card each, not one sharedLisbon's Viva Viagem, Barcelona's T-casual and the Bangkok Skytrain gates are all one card per person; one card tapped eight times does not work and the fine is per head
Worth knowing
- Agree the money rule before the first taxi: the shared card pays anything the whole group uses, the app logs it the same evening, and you settle once on the last night. Splitting restaurant bills by dish takes an hour and starts arguments.
- Book dinner for the group two or three days ahead; most kitchens seat six or more only at the early or the late sitting, and a table for eight on a Saturday in Lisbon or Barcelona without a booking means pizza. Two tables of four is the fallback.
- Share one plan, not eight. Put the apartment address and the booking confirmations in a place everyone can open offline; Waystop's Documents keeps them available without signal.
Trips to pack this for
Never leave the charger in the hotel again.
Waystop keeps a list for each bag and each person. On the morning you change hotels it walks you through a quick pack-up check, and Chat can suggest items to add when you ask what to bring.
