Packing list for a city trip with small kids
London, Paris, Tokyo, New York or Singapore with children under six: a carrier for the stairs, a stroller that folds with one hand, medicines with the dose written on the box, snacks for every line, and a plan with a nap in it.
On a phone with Waystop installed, the button adds the list to your trip as a bag you can tick off. Otherwise copy it and paste it into Waystop’s Chat with “add this to my packing list”.

0/4What the weather is like
Any season; add a sun hat and a clip-on fan for Singapore at 90°F (32°C), or a fleece suit and mittens for New York in January at 27°F (-3°C).
- The full-size travel systemIt will not fit the taxi trunk, the museum elevator or the bus; a compact fold does
- A week of diapers and formulaSupermarkets and pharmacies in all five cities stock familiar brands; carry three days
- Toys that make noiseThe plane cabin and the restaurant will not forgive them; stickers and a notebook are silent
- Diapers, wipes and formulaBoots, Monoprix, Duane Reade and Japanese drugstores; the box carries a picture of the size
- A sun hat or a rain poncho for the childLost on day two and replaced at the first market stall
- Fruit, yoghurt and bread from a supermarket on arrivalBreakfast at 6 a.m. when the jet-lagged child wakes before the hotel does
Worth knowing
- Plan one anchor per half day and put the nap at 1 p.m. in the itinerary. A stroller nap on the move works for some children; a hotel near the sights works for everyone, so sleep central rather than cheap.
- Playgrounds are the best free stop in every city: Coram's Fields in London, the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris, Pier 25 in New York. Find one near each museum before you book the museum.
- Small children ride free on most metros, with the age limit varying from four to eleven by city; check the operator's rule before buying child tickets, and buy the adult day pass only.
Trips to pack this for
Never leave the charger in the hotel again.
Waystop keeps a list for each bag and each person. On the morning you change hotels it walks you through a quick pack-up check, and Chat can suggest items to add when you ask what to bring.
