Packing list for Southeast Asia
Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia in one bag: heat, rain, temples with dress codes, and most of what you forget is cheap at a local pharmacy or convenience store.
On a phone with Waystop installed, the button adds the list to your trip as a bag you can tick off. Otherwise copy it and paste it into Waystop’s Chat with “add this to my packing list”.

86°F (30°C) and humid most of the year, with afternoon downpours from May to October. Air conditioning indoors runs cold.
- JeansThey never dry; light pants do the same job at temples
- Heavy shoesSandals and one pair of light sneakers cover everything
- A hair dryerEvery hotel has one, and the humidity wins anyway
- Tiger Balm or a bite balmAny pharmacy sells it for about a dollar, and it takes the itch out of the bites you get anyway.
- Laundry soap sachetsSingle-wash sachets cost pennies at 7-Eleven and cover the sink-washing between laundry runs.
- A sarongIt covers knees and shoulders at temples and doubles as a beach towel.
Worth knowing
- Laundry by the kilo is on every street; pack four days of clothes.
- A dry bag for the phone on boats and in the rain is worth the $5.
- Temples: shoes off, knees and shoulders covered, feet never pointed at a Buddha.
Trips to pack this for
Never leave the charger in the hotel again.
Waystop keeps a list for each bag and each person. On the morning you change hotels it walks you through a quick pack-up check, and Chat can suggest items to add when you ask what to bring.
