SL. Tap a contactless bank card or phone on the green reader and you have a 75-minute ticket for SEK 43 across metro, bus, tram, commuter train and the Djurgården ferry; each traveler taps their own card. The SL app sells a 24-hour ticket for SEK 180 and 72 hours for SEK 360, which pays on the boat day.

From Arlanda. The Arlanda Express reaches Central Station in 18 minutes, SEK 340 single and SEK 640 round trip, cheaper for two or more together, SEK 160 under 26. The SL commuter train takes 38 minutes to Stockholm City on the SEK 43 ticket plus a SEK 157 station fee at the Arlanda gates, so buy the SL+Arlanda ticket in the app first. Flygbussarna coaches take about 45 minutes and cost least.

The Vasa and ABBA. The Vasa Museum is SEK 240 from May to September and SEK 195 the rest of the year, free under 18, open daily from 10 a.m.; a pre-bought ticket does not skip the line, so go at opening. ABBA The Museum sells 30-minute entry slots, around SEK 270 and cheaper off-peak online, and takes no cash.

Free museums. Fewer than there were: the state museums ended free entry in 2023 and most charge SEK 140 to 240, with under 18s free almost everywhere. The Riksdag’s tours still cost nothing; check any other museum before you count on a free entry.

Djurgården and the boats. Ferry 82 crosses from Slussen to Djurgården in ten minutes on the SL ticket; tram 7 runs there from Kungsträdgården. Waxholmsbolaget boats from Strömkajen take SL tickets between 44 inner jetties, Vaxholm among them, about an hour out; beyond that fares run roughly SEK 75 to 195 by distance, and the five-day Båtluffarkort, around SEK 800, buys unlimited boats.

Cashless. Cafés, market stalls, restrooms and museums take cards and often nothing else. Tipping is rounding up. Anything above 3.5 percent alcohol is sold only at Systembolaget, shut Sunday and Saturday afternoon.

Midsummer, July and the tower. Midsummer Eve is the Friday between June 19 and 25, which is June 25 in 2027, and the city empties: stores shut early, most restaurants close and the party is at Skansen or on the islands. July is quiet because Stockholmers leave and some restaurants close for weeks. The City Hall tower is closed to visitors for a renovation scheduled from early 2027 to the end of 2028; the 45-minute tour of the hall, SEK 150, is the alternative, so check it is running.

The night before. Use one card for every SL tap, one person per card. Put the Vasa and ABBA tickets in Waystop’s Documents and check the boat timetable; the last return from Vaxholm leaves early outside summer.

Questions

Arlanda Express or the commuter train?

The Express is 18 minutes for SEK 340, cheaper for two or more traveling together and SEK 160 under 26. The commuter train is 38 minutes for the SEK 43 ticket plus a SEK 157 Arlanda station fee, about SEK 200. Alone, take the train; two with bags, the Express costs little more.

Can I reach the archipelago on an SL ticket?

Yes. Since 2025 every SL ticket is valid on the Waxholmsbolaget boats between 44 jetties in the inner archipelago, which includes Vaxholm from Strömkajen. Further out you buy a Waxholmsbolaget ticket by distance or the five-day Båtluffarkort.

Is the City Hall tower open?

No. The City Hall site says the tower is closed to visitors for a renovation that runs from early 2027 to the end of 2028, so check its website for the latest. The guided tour of the hall is separate; check that it is running.
